In anticipation of the release of new Dell peripherals, I created Dell Peripheral Manager to showcase the newest features on the devices. These features include programming functions to keys, connection via Bluetooth and wireless, and the ability to keep track of the devices’ battery life. With these in mind, I established a simple, yet rich experience that puts users first through effortless interactions and easy-to-understand UI.

Process

As I began to think about the design for Dell Peripheral Manager, I made sure that each user interaction was smart and easy to understand. To help with this, user flows were created for each experience, and then wireframes followed to support the early iterations. These user flows covered all the bases, including successfully connecting a second device, and how a user would go through the steps of programming keys on their keyboard and mouse. Once the design was finalized, I created a prototype in Figma to replicate the experience of using the software. This was used in a few rounds of testing for validation and I rapidly iterated on any snags that came up.

The future

To close out 2020, I began working on a huge overhaul to Dell Peripheral Manager that would create a more premium and modern experience for users. This included an all-new dark GUI, collapsable sections, and a walk-through that would feature Dell’s brand new 4k external webcam. I also had a blast stretching my illustration and animation muscles for a couple of the screens. I’m so excited to see where this product is going as new peripherals are released to the public.
