To coincide with a huge overhaul to Alienware’s peripheral and gaming software Alienware Command Center, we decided to push the boundaries even further with immersive lighting experiences. I had the pleasure of crafting the concepts below to not only elevate gaming, but daily productivity as well.

Immersive Gaming

When playing a new game for the first time, the last thing I want to be doing is googling the controls. So for these first few concepts, I created contextual lighting scenarios that not only help with getting to know the controls on the keyboard right away but to let you know when your system is having connection issues. As an added bonus I thought it would be fun to add a ticker title style to the keyboard when you start a game, to amp that hype right at the start.

Illuminating Productivity

One concept that I haven’t seen much of is contextual lighting in non-gaming tasks such as switching between programs or even shutting down for the day. I experimented here with having the colors switch from one main color of a program to another, in this case, Photoshop, and Twitch. This makes for an aesthetic and cohesive experience, even when doing small every day tasks. Then when you’re ready to end your day, I decided to mimic the closing of the eye, because even a beefy machine needs rest sometimes too.
